COMFORT
BRINGS SMALL TOWN FLAIR TO JULY 4TH
HOLIDAY
WITH PATRIOTIC PARADE, COMMUNITY
BARBECUE AND FAMILY FUN
*Comfort—The
Most Patriotic Little Town in the
Hill Country*
COMFORT, TEXAS … A Comfort Fourth
of July, a star-spangled celebration
with small town flavor, gives
everyone a reason to celebrate how
great it is to be an American. Held
annually on July 4th, it’s an
event popular with visitors and Hill
Country area residents alike and has
earned Comfort the reputation for
being the most patriotic little town
in the Hill Country.
With red, white, and blue bunting
and flags draped from the town’s
many turn-of-the-century buildings,
July 4th in Comfort is reminiscent
of a summer holiday in rural America
in times past. “For many families,
it’s a summer tradition to dress
for the holiday and head to the Hill
Country for July 4th in Comfort,”
said Regina Alexander , manager of
the Comfort Chamber of Commerce.
“Since July 4th falls on Friday,
we hope visitors will spend the
entire Independence Day weekend in
Comfort, staying at one of our great
bed-and-breakfasts.”
Following in the tradition of
old-fashioned Independence Day
festivities, Comfort celebrates with
patriotic décor along the streets,
an all-American parade, a community
barbecue dinner, and the Miss
Comfort Pageant. A Comfort Fourth of
July includes:
Patriotic Parade. Comfort kicks off
the holiday at 10:30 a.m. with its
annual parade, which each year
provides a colorful and fun way to
celebrate the birth of our country.
Strong community participation
results in almost 100 entries.
Visitors are likely to see everyone
from Uncle Sam to Miss Comfort and
her court. The parade includes
floats, classic cars, antique
tractors, bicycles, and pets, all
decked out in their patriotic
finery. The parade travels through
the downtown historic area on High
Street and then on to Comfort Park ,
located on Highway 27, off of IH-10.
Visitors are encouraged to bring
folding chairs and blankets. The
best seats are on the street curbs
along the parade route.
Texas-Style Barbecue. Beginning at
11:30 a.m. a delicious Texas-style
barbecue brisket dinner with beans,
potato salad and all the trimmings
will be served at Comfort Park for a
nominal charge. Members of the
Comfort Volunteer Fire Department
stay up all night to cook the food
as their civic contribution for the
holiday. Comfort Park is located on
Highway 27, off of IH-10.
Independence Day Shopping. If
you’re lucky enough to get a seat
along the street in the downtown
historic district for the parade,
allow time to browse the great
stores there. Known for its
antiques, Comfort has more than 60
antiques dealers in town, in
addition to other merchants offering
gifts, plants, jewelry, food,
clothing, season décor items and
much more. In addition, a great
selection of arts and crafts booths
will be set up at the barbecue in
Comfort Park .
Family Fun. The community
celebration at Comfort Park will
include moon bounces and
carnival-style games for the kids,
all for a nominal charge, and a
display of antique tractors.
Miss Comfort Pageant. At 6:30 p.m.
city leaders will hold the Miss
Comfort Pageant at the gazebo in
Comfort Park .
Comfort has accommodations to meet
the needs of almost any traveler
from cabins in the country, to
lavishly decorated Victorian era
mansions and picturesque creek side
and river side lodging. Many will be
decorated for the holiday. The town
also is an easy drive from San
Antonio and Austin for families who
want to spend Indepndence Day in the
Hill Country.
